Design Guild Mark presents the trends of 2018

Design Guild Mark - September 3, 2018 - 0 comments

The prestigious Design Guild Mark, awarded by The Furniture Makers’ Company, is a celebration of excellence, showcasing new concepts that are revolutionising the domestic and contract furnishing industry as well as saluting timeless classics.

A stand-out trend and common amongst the entries from 2018, according to judge Barbara Chandler, Editor of Homes & Property at the Evening Standard, was the ‘softening’ of office furniture. Several designers explained that there was now a demand for ‘homely’ workspaces, with softer sculptural flexible seating and ‘kind’ materials for tables/desks.

Judge Pernille Stafford of Resonate Interiors agreed that innovation in the commercial workplace was evident this year.

Twelve pieces of furniture and three pieces from the new 2D category were awarded a Design Guild Mark in 2018.

This September we look forward to presenting them exclusively at 100% Design in a special feature as well as launching the 2019 call for entries.

With brand new features, industry heavyweights Thomas Heatherwick and Marcel Wanders confirmed to speak and the launch of the West Kensington Design District, 100% Design is set to be the must-visit destination during London Design Festival.

The show is a leading platform for global brands and emerging talent to showcase the latest products to more than 27,000 industry professionals.
