Surface Design Show

2019 was a year consumed by global climate change protests, with people of all ages moved by the fierce rallying cries of generation z, who directed their ire at world leaders in the hope that they’d take drastic action for the preservation of our planet.

There is no going back on the issue of climate change, only forwards. And it’s up to all of us to do what we can – large and small – to fight climate change.

So what can design practices and business in the interiors sector do? Well, next month Design Guild Mark judge Natasha Marshall will present a seminar focused on sustainability and sourcing and recycling materials close to home at the 2020 Surface Design Show (11-13 February).

Chaired by Design Guild Mark chairman Rodney McMahon, the seminar is titled ‘Close to home – Locally sourced, sustainable and recyclable talk’.

The seminar will take place on Wednesday 12 February (5.30pm – 6.00pm) at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London.

Commenting on the seminar: Natasha said: “As a designer I have always focused on using the best manufacturers close to home within the UK. My own brand of fabrics and wallpapers have always all been manufactured in the UK, since I first set up in business in 1997. This for me has always been important to me for sustainability reasons and a way of highlighting the quality manufacturing industry we have within the UK. As a small brand it allows us to work closely with our manufacturing base, so we can ensure they are consistently high quality, are being created ethically and produced with good environmental methods.

“As a designer, I love looking at new ways to locally source, create more sustainable products, plus ways to recycle or re-use. This is an ongoing mission and a way of life for me personally, within my interiors and design work.”
