2019 judging day highlights

We’re constantly looking at how best to promote the Design Guild Mark and the holders who are awarded it.

For the past three years now, we’ve filmed short videos with some of the holders to showcase the talent of the British design scene.

The videos have proved extremely popular and deftly demonstrated the prestige of the Mark and why the design community holds it in such high regard.

However, every year we try and up our game by giving the films a fresh look.

This year the Furniture judging day films have been overlaid with animations of some of the awarded designs, which were sketched by the designer during the judging day.

We think you’ll agree that the end result is striking.

In this first video, we spoke with designers who participated in the Furniture category judging day to find out what excellent design means to them.

Two of the designers featured in the film are Paul Kelley and Catherine Aitken, winners of the Furniture category Jonathan Hindle Prize in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

If you’re new to the Design Guild Mark – maybe you heard of it for the first time during Clerkenwell Design Week – this year’s 2D judging day highlights film is a must watch.

In 90 seconds you’ll hear from four of the 2D category judges – Daniel Hopwood, Clare Johnston, Natasha Marshall and Peter Thwaites – and find out more about the Mark, who it is aimed at, the benefits and what the panel is looking out for during judging day.

As Natasha says, “it’s a really exciting day” and something we encourage UK designers to find out more about before the call for entries opens again this autumn.

Let us know what you think of our videos and look out for other films with both designers and judges on our Instagram account.
