Chamfer “springleaf” Table Designed by Ben Fowler for Yonga Mobilya/Marque Furniture

Two ideas in one. The chamfer comb joint idea is one that has come from years of playing with joinery and woodwork to make expressive details. The joint is very strong structurally. By slicing it into a wedge shape the strength is added to with the elegance of a very slim edge profile on the table. Light, strong and demonstrative, is what I was after. The Spring Leaf ™. extension system is my own take on a reversed drawer leaf table. This system can be used in many applications. it is intuitive and you can’t catch your fingers in it.

A childhood spent drawing at his designer Dad’s knee and messing about in wooden rowing boats led Ben to The Royal College of Art studying design, in the Bauhaus tradition, tutored by great people like Fred Scott, Frank Gill and Robert Heritage. Then back to boats this time learning to build them with old friend Mark Edwards MBE builder of Royal Shallop, Gloriana. From here Ben ended up in the workshop in partnership with a fine cabinetmaker Andrew Brace who he met at the boatyard.
Fowler and Brace now Fowler & Co. Fowler & Co is now 35 years old and still making bespoke
furniture whilst, prototyping and developing products for Marque, M&S, Heals, John Lewis, Ercol, the Futon company. We also batch produce our own products in our beautiful “Mid Mod” workshop in Newhaven in Sussex using local materials ,designer friends and our fantastic team of cabinet makers for our sister company “Marque Sussex”.
